British Pop Icon Sophie Ellis-Bextor Will Turn Dubai Opera Into A Dancefloor

British pop sensation, Sophie Ellis-Bextor is set to return to the UAE with an exclusive one-night-only concert at Dubai Opera on Saturday 26 October 2024.

Following the success of her widely celebrated ‘locked down’ weekly Kitchen Discos during the peak of the pandemic and the resurgence of her timeless 2001 hit “Murder On The Dancefloor,” Sophie Ellis-Bextor is as popular as ever.

“Murder On The Dancefloor” gained new life after being prominently featured in the critically acclaimed film ‘Saltburn’, which in turn sparked a viral dance trend on TikTok, introduced her music to a new generation and propelled the song back into the charts across the globe.

Reflecting on this revival, Ellis-Bextor told the BBC: “It’s a song I’ve been singing for over 20 years. I still love singing it. I love the way people react when I do it live. But for new people to be discovering it, for it to be making new memories with people, is kind of beautiful.”

The Dubai concert is a highlight of Ellis-Bextor’s extensive international tour, which has already seen sold-out shows across the UK, Europe, North America and now the Middle East.

In a special arrangement for this event, the stalls of Dubai Opera will be transformed into a fully flat dancefloor venue, ensuring ample space for fans of all ages to groove the night away.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s career has been defined by her distinctive voice, timeless dance-pop hits and her infectious on-stage energy. Dubai fans can expect a greatest hits setlist spanning her long career, from her early chart-topping hit as the uncredited singer on Spiller’s “Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)” to her solo hits, such as “Take Me Home”, “Get Over You”, “Music Gets The Best Of Me” and, of course “Murder On The Dancefloor”.

This outing isn’t her first in the UAE, with previous memorable performances at Movida in Dubai in 2012 and the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix charity gala dinner in 2010.

Expressing her excitement, Sophie Ellis-Bextor said: “My band and I are coming for you, Dubai! Super excited. Come and dance with me. See you on the dancefloor!”
